Fun Classroom Activities

Ms. Oakes' students recently participated in the Marshmallow Challenge. The marshmallow challenge is a simple experiential activity where teams of students are given a challenge to build the tallest freestanding structure that will support the weight of one marshmallow. They have 18 minutes to complete the challenge and are given a set number of building materials, like tape, string, spaghetti, and a marshmallow.

Mrs. Bryant's students also completed a science experiment in the classroom.  Does salt melt ice faster? Why yest it does! Salt lowers the freezing point. In a nutshell, salt is a great ice melter because it causes “freezing point depression.” This means that salt helps in lowering the freezing point and, consequently, the melting point of water.
