Coach Holmes grew up in the small town of Falkville, Alabama, where he lettered in football. He then went on to play college football at the Division III level at Maryville College and Huntingdon College. After graduating from Huntingdon College with his Bachelors in History, he stayed on at Huntingdon where he coached for 2 seasons. Holmes completed his Masters in Athletic Administration and Coaching July 2018.
Zack, and his wife Erika have been married for 11 years and enjoy spending time at the beach with their dog Jack.
